Use Less Energy and Save More Money

energy efficient home

Burning less fossil fuels also means that you will be responsible for less CO2 emissions, which are one of the primary contributors to global warming.

When you engage in energy efficient habits you are doing so much more than saving money. You are also doing our environment a huge favor by reducing the demand for fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal. Burning less fossil fuels also means that you will be responsible for less CO2 emissions, which are one of the primary contributors to global warming. Here are some quick and easy tips and tricks you can incorporate into your everyday life for a more energy efficient home.

Take A Look At Your Refrigerator

Your refrigerator alone will account for roughly 20% of your total household electricity use. Use a thermometer and turn it to as close to 37 degrees as possible. Also take a look at your freezer and make sure it is close to 3 degrees. Make sure the energy saver switch is turned on.

Don’t Wash Your Clothes With Hot Water

Hot water uses extra energy and can even contribute to the color bleeding out of your clothes. Using warm or cold water when you wash clothing is not only more energy efficient, but better for your clothes.

Dishwasher Tricks

Only run your dishwasher when it is full and use the energy saver setting, if it comes with one. Allow dishes to air dry rather than using the built in setting. This will minimize your dishwasher’s total electricity use by up to 20 percent.

Keep On Top Of Filters

Clean or replace your air filters regularly in your home and in air conditioners or hot air furnaces. Dirty filters mean that these appliances have to work harder and use up to 5 percent more energy to keep your home comfortable.

Invest In Energy Efficient Fluorescent Bulbs

While initially more expensive, these light bulbs pay for themselves and work in any type of home. They use a quarter of the energy of a traditional light bulb and last 8-12 times longer, meaning you have to buy far fewer light bulbs.
